Description

Jessica Cannon is a New York-based artist who depicts imagined landscapes informed by feminine and cosmic forces in her work. Balancing spatial, figurative, ecstatic, and erotic qualities, the visual elements in her work reflect a process of individual and collective searching. This search happens along two orbits – out in the far reaching universe, as described by physics – and inside an interior world shaped by personal experience. She has exhibited her work throughout the US, as well as internationally, including shows at Crush Curatorial, Honey Ramka, Atelier Seruse, the Manes Center for Contemporary Art, Big Medium, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She is a past recipient of The Brooklyn Arts Council’s Community Arts Fund Grant and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s SwingSpace Residency on Governor’s Island. Select press and publications include: The New York Times, Flaunt Magazine, phaidon.com, Maake Magazine, New American Paintings, and Hyperallergic.

In 2017 Jessica founded Far By Wide, a series of exhibitions online and in pop-up spaces to support social and environmental justice organizations. She received a BA from Tufts University and an MFA from Parsons School of Design. Jessica currently teaches in the First Year Program at Parsons School of Design and the Visual Arts Department at CUNY Queens College.
